Stop Being Taken By The Current

Ever heard of Poling or Setting Poles? It's how boats moved upstream in rivers and it's how you can start Building Generational Health.

There is a huge current moving against you — society, social media, Big Food, Big Pharma, your friends, your own habits, your self talk.

You've got lots to be proud of — the family you built, the business you run, maybe a rental property or two — things are good!

But your deep down desire is to feel better in your skin and in clothes.

But you can't make any ground. You are getting dragged along by seemingly unstoppable forces.

  • Running through fast food, just one more time, because I'm so busy.

  • Going out for drinks "because it's what they want to do."

  • Crashing out on the couch when you get home because moving at all is so daunting.

  • Refilling those meds — just one more month, I promise, then I'll get my act together.

The currents are pulling you further and further from where you want to be...

  • Throwing on whatever clothes you want

  • Going for a hike and running around with the grandkids

  • Doctor visits that end with "keep up the great work!"

  • Being a good example for your family

How do you stop the current from taking you?

River boaters back in the day had massive boats with tons of cargo and momentum wanting to take it downstream — sails weren't reliable, oars couldn't stop momentum of the boat, and engines weren't around yet. So what did they do?

They stood at the front of the big boat, plunged a pole into the river.

This stopped the boat. Taken by the current no longer.

The single man would then brace against the pole and walk toward the back of the boat.

Heaving with their muscles and determination, this moved the boat forward against the current.

The guy would then take his pole out, run to the front of the boat, and plunge the pole back in the depths before the boat was swept away.

Over and over and over again for hundreds of twisting turbulent river miles.

They were determined to reach their destination — in spite of the current against them, in spite of the debris floating toward them, in spite of their feelings.

They knew the destination would be worth the work.

How you feel about your body, your health, can change. You just gotta plant the pole and say ENOUGH to the current taking you.
