A lot of my clients come to me with discomfort or pain in their shoulders, neck and back.
Stretching can provide relief, so can foam rolling, or just general moving. But doesn't quite hit the spot. Why is that?
Because the body is dealing with a bigger structural issue from Compression from Gravity.
Your ribs and your spine have a lot of downward pressure throughout the day because of gravity, so this creates issues that are bigger than tightness of a muscle.
The spinal column and intercostal muscles in the ribs should literally be able to expand and contract and absorb force throughout the day, but if they're already compressed, that is hard to do and can lead to aforementioned discomfort.
But one of the best ways that I've found to help the body uncoil is by hanging from a pull up bar, a TRX set up, or a Reverse Hyper.
All of these are decompressive in nature.
Meaning, they help take pressure of gravity off the vertebrae and ribs, allowing those muscles to relax, open up, and potentially help better align other muscles and joints such as your shoulders or your hips.
