It used to be a given that Americans were going to live longer and longer -- greater wealth, better sanitation, better civil society, better foods, more meds for seemingly anything...
but not only are we not living as long as we once were (down about 1.5 years from 2019), but those years aren't as GOOD.
Meaning, the quality of our aging is going down. If you live to 78, odds are good you'll have a chronic disease starting at age 63...
Meaning the last 15 years you could be living with diabetes, cancer, cardiovascular disease, dementia, a physical impairment of some kind... sounds... funnnn.....
Want to be able to play with your grandkids or dance at their wedding??? Then you should probably read on ...

I'm here to tell you about the secret sauce that will help you live longer AND live better... our special friend... Protein...
A new study out of the American Journal for Clinical Nutrition followed the protein intake for a group of 50 THOUSAND nurses from the 1980s till 2016.
The results are crazy when it comes to affect of protein on aging.
Often, protein gets an unnecessarily bad name -- it's tied to red meat and heart disease -- and people tend to think getting carbs is more important.
This study highlights that that horrible notion couldn't be further from the truth.
Protein is the most essential macronutrient for almost every organ in our body. Its name literally means 'of first importance'.

What does Healthy Aging mean???
Healthy aging was defined as
being free from 11 major chronic diseases,
having good mental health and
not having impairments in either cognitive or physical function.
The findings: Protein intake was significantly associated with higher odds of healthy aging.
So what were some of the benefits??
Well, not having chronic disease -- cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer or dementia is pretty darn good.
Also, protein is essential for organ function, so the organs probably were less stressed and better cared for.
Protein is also THE major driver in body composition -- without protein, you can't put on muscle mass. Without muscle mass, you don't burn as many calories, without burning calories you store fat (ie, you become very very soft).
More muscle and less fat is associated with tons of positive health benefits -- not just physical either, but also mental health as well.
Did you know that protein centric diets help increase cognitive function too?
But WAIT there's more... other studies have found that diets high in protein help with bone mineral density (essential for elderly, particularly women)
So, if you want to lose weight, gain muscle, have stronger bones, age better, eat your protein!!
